This is almost entirely taken from my friend and artist Panko. He did a write up in my discord and asked for some crediting for designing my character/vtuber avatar. So in order to do so we're putting this part of the website together to be a history of us.
The first commission of Panko! In the beginning of 2023 I contacted Panko after being recommended his talent by my friends Lyfe4m and Cvmpliant. I asked if he could make the art for a new single I was going to release - “Playstation Dream”.
The first design came back and I loved the feel and look of it, but when I went to release the song onto streaming services the song was rejected. So we had to rethink the whole thing. In turn I renamed the song and Panko redid the art and thus “Living Today” was born.
The original Netto commission! A while later all my friends on twitter were using a Picrew to make pictures of their OCs or themselves. So I followed along in the trend and made a cute girl version of myself/OC (I had not realized I was trans quite yet.)
So I thought damn it’d be nice to have a decent picture of my OC and asked Panko to help out with the art. Originally she was going to be a 2D artwork but along the way Panko chose instead to make her 3D! He used the game Koikatsu (which a lot of the community uses almost like blender) to make her. I downloaded it too! Making the 0.1 version in the process.
In the process of nailing down her design we went through some changes. The 0.8 version shown below I didn’t much care for due to the blueness of her hair and largeness of her eyes. Panko stuck with me through the changes.
Next is the 0.9 and 1.0 versions. You can see that not much changes between the two except the minor fixes to the shaders on her. Netto at this point is finished! Panko and I start using her for artwork and promo materials. The biggest part would come later down the line when we go through the process of porting her out of Koikatsu and through Blender and Unity to make a VRM file.
In the meantime, We go through two more single releases and make art for them. Repeal Your Face and Heart Scars. Panko and I collaborated a lot on the art works to get a unique design. The idea behind Repeal Your Face being a feeling of loss of identity and place in society with liminal space being an inspiration. Heart Scars being just just inspired by the song and how it feels.
The biggest next step would be my wife sketching out an idea they had. They wanted to get Netto out of the school girl outfit and into something more unique. So one afternoon they came to me and asked to show the idea to Panko for the start of a Netto 2.0.
This would send Panko down the rabbit hole again. The notes he gave on the first one say basically, “I wasn’t feeling this one personally,” and “I wanted to make something that would live up to the design, but struggled making something good.” In my mind though this is an important step in how she would shape up.
The next two designs would be where Netto would really come into her own. Panko did amazing work with refining what he had made with the new color scheme, the better textures on the shirt and jacket, the new sunglasses and the choker (I love the choker). She’s really screaming punk now.
The last part is where Panko finished up the coloring and shadering. The new brightness and vividness of the colors are the best and She feels so pretty!
Goth Netto! The latest outfit Panko has made for Netto! I actually was surprised by this one and I still haven’t ported this to a VRM file. Like for real I didn’t ask Panko to make this outfit and just surprised me with her for my birthday. He actually was inspired by me wearing make up for the first time!
Last things I want to show here. Panko has done a couple of 2D arts of Netto. One of my favorite arts and legit something that made me cry a bit is the drawing of Netto in a skirt. It was based off of a picture I took after I got women’s clothes and tried them on for the first time. So seeing this really got me emotional.
Then a silly drawing of a Doro version of Netto for stream emotes and a work in progress sketch that Panko didn’t finish.
Oh yeah! The newest thing we have done together is the art for my next single, "HATE". We took the Goth Netto design and combined her with AM from I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream.
So there is a pretty decent history of Netto and how things have changed and evolved over time. The best things that have come over the time of her being made and designed is the life changes. Panko has really become one of my best friends over us working together and I feel so happy to have him in my life. The second change is that she really helped me realize my gender. I felt so much envy over her and being her in a way made me finally confront the feelings I had since as long as I could remember.
